Ontario Boating Regulations
As of September 15, 2009 all boaters operating on Ontario waters are required to
have the Pleasure Craft Operator Card in order to operate a powered watercraft.
This is a federal law that applies in all provinces, including Ontario. Powered
watercraft includes watercraft fitted with any size motor — even an electric trolling
There are several methods for one to obtain their card:
Online Course and Exam
Take your exam on the internet. Effective
April 15th, 2011 the online exam process will change to a more comprehensive
format, including a minimum 3 hours of study time.
Students may challenge the exam in person at various boat shows and tradeshows across
Canada, such as the Toronto International Boat Show,
Ottawa Boat Show, and at
Bass Pro Shops just north of Toronto.
