Delaware DNR-Approved Boating Safety Course

Before launching the Online boating safety course the BoaterExam team worked in conjunction with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources to ensure that all the information in the course is as accurate as possible and will thoroughly prepare students for the Delaware Boating License.

The online course contains numerous state-specific sections that highlight Delaware's boating laws, rules and regulations. These sections are highlighted in blue boxes throughout the online boating safety study guide, so watch for them! The final boating safety exam will have a minimum of 10 Delaware-specific test questions that relate to these sections.

Completing the online boating safety course will allow you to obtain your Delaware Boating Safety Education Certificate. (often mistakenly called the Delaware Boating License) that is approved by the DNR. A Delaware Boating Safety Education Certificate is required onboard for all boaters born after January 1, 1978 when the vessel is underway to satisfy the Delaware boating regulations.

Boating License or Boating Safety Education Certificate... is there a difference?

The boater education card is proof that you have successfully completed a boating safety course. The boater education card does not expire and does not need to be renewed. Therefore, it is NOT a Delaware Boating License!
