Georgia Boating License vs. Boater Education Card?
Many boaters incorrectly use the term "Georgia Boating License", "Georgia Boaters License", or "Georgia Boat License" when they refer to the boater education card. In fact, the boater education card is NOT a license. The card does not expire, cannot be revoked, and never needs to be renewed, which is the case with a driver's license.
Then, how to I get the Boater Education Card?
You can obtain the Georgia Boater Education Card (Georgia boating license) by successfully completing the online Georgia boating safety course and passing the Georgia boating license test.
What's more, once you've passed the final exam you can print out a temporary certificate, and go boating right away! The permanent certificate arrives in the mail within a few weeks after you've passed the course and exam.
So why is it called a Georgia Boating License?
Since many people are used to using the term "license" it's a natural assumption that you need a boating license to drive a boat instead of a boater education card. The Georgia Boater Education Card is what you need in order to drive a boat on Georgia waters.
