Pennsylvania Boating Regulations
A large number of boating fatalities occur because boaters are not educated about boating safety. The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission believe that an educated boater is a safer boater.
The Pennsylvania Boating Safety Education Certificate is proof that a boater has taken and passed an approved boating safety education course. The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission currently has mandatory boater education for all PWC (personal watercraft) users 12 years old and over.
Additionally, all boat operators born on or after January 1, 1982 are required to successfully complete a Boating Safety exam and have their Boating Safety Education Certificate onboard with them while operating any motorized vessel that is propelled by a motor greater than 25 hp.
Many boaters who do not fall into this category will still wish to get the Pennsylvania boating license so they can save on their boat insurance.
