This course is recognized by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and successful completion of all its components will allow you to obtain your Boating Safety Education Certificate.
The course itself is FREE. The course and end of chapter quizzes can be completed at no cost; you will only be charged if you wish to take your Certification Exam and obtain your Certificate.

How the Course Works
The first step in the process is to go through the course. The course itself is broken down into 6 manageable chapters covering a different aspect of boating safety.
Each of the chapters has a minimum required study time before you can access the chapter review quiz and chapters may only be completed sequentially. Each chapter is subsequently broken down into various topics which have been separated into a number of timed pages. The timer at the top of each page will let you know when you may proceed.
In total ? 3 hours of study time will be needed before you will be able to access the Certification Exam. However, we will keep a record of your progress in your personal Exam Center as you log your study time and complete each end of chapter quiz. This means the online course is convenient, and does NOT need to be completed all at once.
You can log in and log out at any time, and pick up right where you left off!
How the Chapter Review Quizzes work
As mentioned, at the end of each chapter you will need to pass a 10 question review quiz in order to proceed to the next chapter. You will be quizzed ONLY on the material contained in that particular chapter. Each question is made up of 4 multiple choice answer options which are accompanied by helpful visual aids, a valuable educational tool exclusive to BoaterExam.com.™
Every quiz is graded immediately and a passing grade of 70% or better is needed to proceed to the next chapter.
Important: If you are unsuccessful with one of the chapter quizzes, you will be required to spend the minimum amount of time within that chapter again before you will be able to retake the quiz or proceed to the next chapter.
How the Exam Works
Once you have been through all 6 Chapters, have completed the review quizzes and covered the exam and state fees you will be able to take your Certification Exam. Although in the same format as the chapter review quizzes, the Certification Exam is cumulative and consists of 60 questions drawn from the material covered in all 6 chapters of the course.
A score of 80% is needed to pass and upon completion you will obtain your Pennsylvania Boating Safety Education Certificate.
If you are not successful on your first attempt at the Certification Exam - don?t worry. Take a moment to review your wrong answers and go back over any areas where you may have had trouble an attempt the exam again. However, if you are not successful in passing the Certification Exam after 3 attempts you will be required to pay the exam fee again in order to continue. This is a Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Requirement.
