South Carolina DNR-Approved Boating Safety Course

Before launching the Online boating safety course the BoaterExam team worked in conjunction with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources to ensure that all the information in the course is as accurate as possible and will thoroughly prepare students for the South Carolina Boating License Test.

The online course contains numerous state-specific sections that highlight South Carolina's boating laws, rules and regulations. These sections are highlighted in blue boxes throughout the online boating safety study guide, so watch for them! The final boating safety exam will have a minimum of 10 South Carolina-specific test questions that relate to these sections.

Completing the online boating safety course will allow you to obtain your South Carolina Boater Education Card. (often mistakenly called the South Carolina Boating License) that is approved by the SC DNR. All boaters under 16 years of age are required to carry the South Carolina boating license on board to satisfy state boating regulations while operating on South Carolina’s waters.

Boating License or Boater Education Card...is there a difference?

The boater education card is proof that you have successfully completed a boating safety course. The boater education card does not expire and does not need to be renewed. Therefore, it is NOT a South Carolina Boating License!
