REQUIRED EQUIPMENT IN UTAH

Bailing Device or Bilge Pump

All vessels that are not considered self bailing must have a bail bucket or bilge pump on board. Vessels 65 feet and greater must have a bilge pump for each below deck compartment. It is always a good idea to have a bail bucket on board. If the battery dies, the bilge pump will not work.

Spare Propulsion

All boats less than 21 feet long must have at least one spare paddle, oar, or motor on board. Spare propulsion is recommended for boats of all other lengths.

Bells, Whistles and Horns

In addition to a horn or whistle, vessels 40 feet or longer must carry a bell on board. A whistle or horn is recommended for boats less than 16 feet in length.

Other Recommended Equipment

Boat operators are advised to carry the following items on board: flashlights, first aid kits, boarding ladders, tool kits, extra line or rope, spare spark plugs, spare bilge plugs, spare propellers, anchors, and approved visual distress signals.
