COLD WATER IMMERSION
Many drownings and boating-related fatalities are a result of cold water immersion. When a person falls into cold water, his or her body experiences a number of physiological responses which are affected by both the temperature of the water and the amount of time he or she is in the water. Cold water should be avoided whenever possible. However, if a person does end up in cold water, it is important that they find a way to get their body out of the water as soon as possible using whatever means available.
