LAW ENFORCEMENT IN UTAH
Law enforcement officers in Utah have the authority to stop and board any boat, whether it is on water or land. If that officer determines the vessel is overloaded, unseaworthy, or the required safety equipment is not on the vessel, that officer may prohibit the launching of the vessel or stop the vessel from operating.
Any operator who has received a visual or audible signal from a law enforcement vessel must bring their boat to a stop. Any operator who fails to stop their vessel or attempts to elude a law enforcement officer is guilty of a class A misdemeanor.
No vessel operator except authorized law enforcement and emergency vessel operators may display red or blue flashing lights or sound a siren on any waters of this state.
