The following 3 steps must be completed in the order presented in order to obtain your Vermont Boating Safety Education Certificate
1. Study the Vermont Boating Safety Course Manual & Complete the Chapter Review Quizzes
- Cost: FREE
- 7 manageable chapters covering 100% of the quiz & exam material
- Allow for a total of 3 hours for the course and review quizzes
- Pass the review quiz (80% or greater) at the end of each chapter to proceed to the following chapter
- Complete all 7 chapters and review quizzes to proceed to the certification exam.
Does NOT need to be completed all at once! Comeback at any time and pick up right where you left off using your personal username and password!
2. Take The Vermont Certification Exam
- Cost: $29.95 (exam fee)
- 60 Questions (multiple choice)
- 80% needed to pass (48 right answers)
- No time limit — Review all your wrong answers

Education Requirement
A boater education card is required for all persons born after January 1, 1974 who intend to operate a powered watercraft on Vermont waters.
