West Virginia DNR - Approved Boating Safety Course

Before launching the Online boating safety course the BoaterExam team worked in conjunction with the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources to ensure that all the information in the course is as accurate as possible and will thoroughly prepare students for the West Virginia Boat License Test.

The online course contains numerous state-specific sections that highlight West Virginia's boating laws, rules and regulations. These sections are highlighted in blue boxes throughout the online boating safety study guide, so watch for them! The final boating safety exam will have a minimum of 10 West Virginia-specific test questions that relate to these sections.

Completing the online boating safety course will allow you to obtain your West Virginia Boater Education Card. (often mistakenly called the West Virginia Boating License) )) that is approved by the DNR. All boaters born after December 31, 1986 are required to carry the boater education card on board to satisfy state boating regulations while operating on West Virginia's waters.

Boating License or Boating Safety Education Certificate...is there a difference?

The boater education card is proof that you have successfully completed a boating safety course. The boater education card does not expire and does not need to be renewed. Therefore, it is NOT a West Virginia Boating License!
