A Canadian company has provided a bilingual Web site where recreational boaters may obtain the mandatory boat license (Pleasure Craft Operator's Card).

BoaterExam.com created the Web site. Officials said recreational boaters can become licensed in less than one hour. The site has successfully issued a boat license to thousands of boaters across Canada, the company said.

Boaters can train, challenge the exam, print a temporary boat license and legally drive a boat within an hour of visiting BoaterExam.com, the company said.

"We wanted to offer an alternative certification process for boaters who don't have the time to spend a Saturday in a classroom, or for those who live in rural or isolated communities where no safe boating courses are even offered," said Larry McNamee, president and co-founder.

Boat license required by law

Canadian legislation states that an operator of any watercraft fitted with a motor and being used for recreational purposes must obtain a Pleasure Craft Operator Card. The card (or boat license) is available to boaters who successfully pass the Canadian Coast Guard accredited safe boating exam.

BoaterExam.com is authorized to provide online safe boating training and certification through Forensic and Nautical Consultants of Canada Inc., an accredited safe boating course provider of the Canadian Coast Guard.
