CHAPTER 9: Boating Education Practices

9.1 IN INDIANA

Boater Safety Education Requirements

Individuals who are at least 15 years of age and do not have a valid driver's license may operate a motorized vessel on Indiana's public waters if they have been issued an identification card by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and hold proof of having successfully completed a Boating Education Course approved by the state of Indiana. The identification card and proof of successful completion must be carried onboard at all times while operating.

Mandatory Violator Education

If a person's Indiana driver's license is suspended, the court that recommends the suspension of the person's driver's license may require the person, as a prerequisite to the ending of the suspension, to successfully complete a boating education course approved by the Department of Natural Resources.
