Step 3. Take the proctored exam
- To take your proctored final exam, which is required to obtain your Michigan Boating Safety Certificate simply make an appointment with one of the following:
- Your local County Sheriff's office, or
- Department of Natural Resources District Office.

The boating safety certificate is proof that you have successfully completed a boating safety course. The boating safety certificate does not expire and does not need to be renewed; therefore it is NOT a Michigan Boating License!
